well, it really all depends on your face shape, skin color, hair color, eye color, and size of features. less is more is the ground rules of makeup. and be balanced. if you go for an intense metallic gold eye, a subtle light pink lipstick is the perfect match. if you have biggggg lips like me, avoid very dramatic and shiny-red lipcolors because it tends to look hoochy. if you light/pale skin(like Taylor Momsen) rosy red colors will work for you. if you have golden skin( like Sheena from America's Next Top Model) olive and green tones look good on you. if your tan(Vanessa Hudgens) colors like black and grey work with your smoky undertones. and if you have darker skin(Beyonce) deep golds and browns bring out the best in you.

One of the best tips is to use good quality tools and makeup, and then blend everything really really well. Practice a lot, and you'll get better at it - play with makeup and make different looks.
